Bleach #508 - Like a Raging Fire | Bleach #509 - Tenchi Kaijin

In a Nutshell

Took the words right out of my mouth
Took the words right out of my mouth

In keep with the tradition that a Bankai should be somewhat related to its Shikai form, the Captain Commander reveals that he can create zombies... fire zombies of dead Quincies. In addition, he one shots Juha, who leaves a cryptic message before his death.

High Points

  • Flaming Quincy zombies, Batman.
  • This is the last time I'm going to always point out that Bleach looks cool.

Low Points

  • Nonsense Bankai.

Rants and Raves

Both Bleach and Naruto always amaze me in their ability to make genocide seem like it's not really anything serious. In Naruto, they tell one of the main characters that he should just get over the fact that his race was slaughtered, that the village never made any real attempt at catching the criminals, the criminal came back to chaos more chaos and they still wouldn't do much to try and apprehend him, and *spoiler alert* that the village ordered it... because an oppressed and discriminated against people dared to strike back against the oppressor. In Bleach, the Quincy were annihilated due to killing Hollows. Allegedly, some balance of Hollows must be maintained, which is an odd rule considering that not once in the history of Bleach has a Shinigami not immediately tried to murder any Hollow they came across. Apparently, the balance only applies to Hollows that they don't come across. Anyways, back to these chapters and how they relate to genocide. I found the Captain Commander's words that he's the one the really suffers, not Juha amusing when you take into account that he ordered genocide then rose a zombie army of genocided Quincy to attack the few that escaped slaughter.

Grade

B+. These two chapters were interesting. The added cruelty of the Captain Commander's Quincy Zombies was added another check box in the why I love to hate the Captain Commander column and I'm interested in seeing where things go from here.

William Taylor holds Bleach deeply in his heart, but when he thinks about it, it makes him want to fart. Unlock the mystery on Twitter @mrsickvisionz.
